How NEET Active Recall Is Graded — Write Your Answer to Score Full Marks
Why Active Recall — and what you're actually doing

Reading a chapter and understanding it is not the same as being able to reproduce it in the exam hall. NEET tests recall: "which organelle has 70S ribosomes?", "what is the site of the Krebs cycle?". You don't get marks for having read it — you get marks for remembering the exact fact under pressure.
Active Recall on TrackNation trains exactly that muscle. After you read a chapter, you close it and write out everything you remember. Our grader then checks how many of the chapter's real, testable facts you actually reproduced — and shows you what you missed, so your next revision is targeted.
How a recall session works
Read the chapter article (or your own NCERT) thoroughly.
Open the recall box and you'll see a few topic hints — the high-yield sub-topics of that chapter (e.g. Mitochondria · Lysosomes · Nucleus · Ribosomes).
Write down every fact you can recall about those topics, from memory.
Submit. You get a score, a breakdown of which facts you nailed and which you missed, and the chapter resurfaces later (spaced repetition) so it sticks.
How to write your answer so it scores
The single most important habit: name the topic, then list its facts. The grader reads your answer the way a teacher does — it checks, for each fact, that you named the right structure AND used the right keyword. Write so both are obvious.
The five rules of a high-scoring answer
1. Name the topic first. Begin a fact with the organelle or concept: “Mitochondria has cristae…”, not “It has cristae…”.
2. Use the exact keyword. The marks live in the specific word — powerhouse, cristae, hydrolytic, semiconservative, 70S. A vague paraphrase that drops the keyword scores nothing.
3. One fact per clause; keep it short. Commas are fine: “Mitochondria is the powerhouse, has a double membrane, has cristae, contains 70S ribosomes.” Each piece is graded on its own.
4. Re-name the topic when you switch. When you move to a new organelle, name it again — don't carry “it” across topics, or your fact may be read against the wrong structure.
5. Don't guess. A wrong fact earns nothing and wastes your space. If you're unsure, skip it — the grader rewards correct recall, not volume.

How the grading works (in plain words)
You don't need to write word-for-word what the chapter said. The grader matches on meaning, with two checks per fact.
What earns a mark
Right structure + right keyword = full mark. “Mitochondria has its own circular DNA” → matched, because the subject (mitochondria) and the answer word (circular DNA) are both there.
Right structure, vague word = partial / no mark. “Mitochondria is important” misses the keyword, so it doesn't count as the powerhouse fact.
Right keyword, WRONG structure = no mark. This is the big one: writing “Nucleus has circular DNA” will not earn the mitochondria fact — the grader checks attribution, just like the exam does. Putting a true fact under the wrong organelle is exactly the mistake NEET punishes, so the grader punishes it too.
Wrong fact = no mark, no penalty. “Mitochondria is the dustbin of the cell” simply doesn't match — it neither helps nor hurts beyond wasting your space.
Phrasing is forgiven, facts are not
Spelling slips and word forms are handled — “eukaryotic” and “eukaryotes” are treated as the same, “powerhouse of cell” and “the powerhouse of the cell” score the same.
You're scored on how many of the chapter's real facts you reproduced, on a forgiving curve — you do not need every single fact for a strong score, but you do need the high-yield ones with the right keyword.
A worked example: strong vs weak answer
Here is the same set of facts written two ways. Read them and you'll see instantly why one scores and one doesn't.
✅ A strong answer (high score)
Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. It has a double membrane with cristae on the inner membrane. Its matrix contains Krebs cycle enzymes. Mitochondria has its own circular DNA and 70S ribosomes. Lysosomes are the suicide bags of the cell; they contain hydrolytic enzymes and are formed by the Golgi apparatus.
Every fact names its structure and carries the exact keyword. Notice that when the answer switches from mitochondria to lysosomes, it re-names the topic.
❌ A weak answer (low score) — same knowledge, badly written
It is very important and makes energy. It has membranes and some DNA. There are also bags that have stuff inside. They break things down.
No structure names, no keywords (“powerhouse”, “circular DNA”, “hydrolytic” are all missing), and “it/they” float free so nothing can be attributed. The student may know the chapter — but this answer can't prove it, and neither could it in the exam.

Write the way the exam rewards: name the structure, fire the keyword, one fact at a time. Do that and the score reflects what you actually know — and the “missed facts” list tells you exactly what to revise next.
